Charminar in Hyderabad to Undergo Renovation, Introducing Visitors' Plaza to Attract Tourists

Hyderabad’s Charminar will soon undergo renovations to create a visitors’ plaza and provide facilities for tourists, according to AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. The plaza will include multi-purpose public toilets, a public plaza, and a tourist information cell. Owaisi emphasized the importance of protecting Hyderabad’s cultural identity while also ensuring that families can enjoy clean and safe public spaces.

The GHMC plan for the visitors’ plaza aims to accommodate the large number of visitors that public places and tourist sites near Charminar attract throughout the day. The design includes a stepped plaza that serves as a vibrant public space for visitors to pause and take in the sights. Underneath the plaza, there will be public restrooms and a visitor center that provides basic services such as destination information, maps, drinking water, and public toilets.

The entrance to the public toilets will be designed as a double-story foyer to welcome the public. The circular building will have a porous facade made of local stone, allowing natural light and air to flow in and reduce unpleasant odors. The building will also have facilities for disabled individuals, including an access ramp. Additional amenities include drinking water, a baby changing station, and a sanitary napkin dispenser.
