CCMB holds consultative meeting in Hyderabad for one day

Hyderabad: CSIR-CCMB organized a one-day meeting on strategies for managing aquatic biological invasions. The purpose of the meeting was to bring together experts, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss and find effective strategies for dealing with the impacts of invasive species in water.

According to CCMB officials, invasive species have cost the Indian economy billions of rupees. They have also found that some catfish species are widespread in India, but there is no comprehensive study on aquatic invasive species in the country.

Dr. Rajat Kumar, special chief secretary to the government of Telangana, emphasized the importance of documenting invasive species and understanding their impact on the environment, food security, and health.

Dr. Vinay Nandicoori, director of CSIR-CCMB, stated that the meeting helped gather collective thoughts on managing invasive species and protecting native biodiversity. He also mentioned that the meeting facilitated the formation of a network of stakeholders committed to addressing this biodiversity threat.
