CBI officials reach Kurnool in Viveka murder case; Kadapa MP may face arrest

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may arrest Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy for not showing up twice to be questioned in the murder investigation of former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy. The MP claimed he couldn’t appear before the CBI on Monday due to his mother’s poor health, and the CBI officials went to Kurnool to speak with Kunrool district officials about making the YSRCP MP surrender. Avinash Reddy has been staying at Viswabharathi Hospital in Kurnool for four days, and his supporters have been trying to prevent his arrest. On Sunday night, some of his supporters attacked media persons and damaged their cameras. The CBI had issued a notice to Avinash Reddy on May 19, asking him to appear before them in Hyderabad on May 22, but he didn’t show up.

Vivekananda Reddy was murdered on March 15, 2019, at his house in Pulivendula, weeks before the elections. The CBI arrested Avinash Reddy’s father, Y.S. Bhaskar Reddy, last month. The CBI accused Bhaskar Reddy, Avinash Reddy, and their follower Devireddy Shiva Shankar Reddy of plotting to kill Vivekananda Reddy because he opposed giving Avinash Reddy the Kadapa Lok Sabha ticket.

Avinash Reddy denies the allegations and claims that the CBI overlooked several important facts in the case. The Supreme Court refused to hear Avinash Reddy’s plea for an urgent hearing on his petition seeking a direction to Telangana High Court to grant him anticipatory bail on May 17.
