Can counterfeit seeds be eliminated to protect farmers?

The farmers in Nadigadda region are facing various problems in farming, such as fake seeds, counterfeit pesticides, and organizers looting them. This illegal activity by seed mafia is harming the farmers and affecting agricultural productivity in the area.

Seed rust has become a major issue for farmers in Nadigadda, especially during the rainy season when fake cotton seeds are being sold, resulting in huge losses for the farmers. Despite raids and cases being registered against those responsible, the smuggling of fake seeds continues due to flaws in the Seed Act and political influence.

The Agriculture department is planning to cultivate 70 lakh acres of land during the monsoon season, with farmers gearing up to cultivate cotton on a large scale. However, scammers are taking advantage of the demand for seeds and are selling inferior or expired seeds to farmers, causing further losses.

Authorities need to increase surveillance to prevent fraudsters from taking advantage of farmers in areas like Gadwal district. Farmers should be cautious when purchasing seeds, ensuring they know where the seeds were produced, cleaned, and packed, as well as checking for quality and authenticity.

There is a demand for the Agriculture department to focus on providing foundation seeds and returning failed seeds to farmers to prevent further losses. Farmers in Nadigadda are urging the government to take appropriate measures to eradicate the illegal seed mafia and protect them from financial losses.
