The national vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), DK Aruna, has called for the government to halt the Chinnonipalli reservoir project. Aruna expressed her frustration with the police for arresting farmers who were protesting against the project and demanding the return of their lands. These farmers had been protesting for over 422 days. Aruna criticized the government officials for treating the farmers like criminals and moving them from one police station to another for three days. She demanded that the farmers be released and that the government cancel the reservoir project, just as they did with the Chigurumidi project in Karimnagar district and the Thotapalli reservoir project, which was started in 2005 and is still incomplete.
Aruna also accused the government of trying to drive a wedge between farmers in Alampur and Gadwal constituencies by restarting the reservoir project. She urged officials to bring this serious issue to the attention of the government.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Aruna thanked BJP leaders, cadres, and teachers who worked for the victory of AVN Reddy in the MLC election. The BJP district president S Ramachandra Reddi, state working committee member Gaddam Krishna Reddy, Assembly convener Ramanjaneyulu, and others were present at the event.
