In his first attempt at politics, Congress MLA B Manohar Reddy defeated sitting MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy of BRS in the December 2023 assembly elections in Tandur.

Manohar Reddy won with 84,662 votes, while Rohith Reddy received 78,079 votes, giving Manohar Reddy a lead of 6,583 votes.

Rohith Reddy, who had previously won as a Congress candidate in 2018, joined the BRS party and sought re-election in 2023, but was defeated by Manohar Reddy.

Before entering politics, Manohar Reddy was a businessman with a background in agriculture and had served as chairman of the District Co-operative Central Bank in Vikarabad district.

Initially associated with BRS, Manohar Reddy switched to the Congress party after failing to secure a party ticket from Pargi constituency.

Known for his strategic approach, Manohar Reddy promised to address pollution issues in Tandur, which is known for its cement factories and stone industry.
