BRS scrambles to finalize outstanding candidates

The ruling party in Hyderabad is yet to decide on five seats for the upcoming elections. This has caused dissatisfaction among BRS leaders who were denied tickets. The party had initially left four seats vacant, but with the resignation of Mynampally Hanumanth Rao, they now need to choose a new candidate for Malkajgiri constituency.

The ruling party had announced candidates for 115 Assembly constituencies on August 21. Among the remaining five seats, Jangaon and Narsapur are causing contention as the current members are not willing to give up their seats. Sources reveal that Palla Rajeshwar Reddy has been chosen as the candidate for Jangaon, replacing Muthireddy Yadagiri Reddy. The sitting MLA was offered the position of TSRTC chairman.

The Station Ghanpur constituency is also causing disagreements as the current MLA, T Rajaiah, is refusing to compromise on the seat. The party has given the ticket to Kadiyam Srihari instead of former Deputy CM Rajaiah. There were rumors about Rajaiah being offered the post of Telangana Rythu Bandhu Samithi chairman, but he has denied compromising on the ticket.

The party is facing a dilemma regarding the Narsapur ticket. Although C Madan Reddy is the current MLA, the party has not announced the candidate yet, indicating a possible change. Sunita Laxma Reddy, a senior leader, is expecting the ticket and may quit the party to join Congress if not given the opportunity. The announcement of candidates for Nampally and Goshamahal will be made in consultation with AIMIM after the opposition parties declare their candidatures.

After Mynampally Hanumanth Rao’s resignation, multiple leaders in the constituency are vying for the ticket. Marri Rajashekar Reddy, the son-in-law of Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy, and Alwal corporator Shanti Srinivas Reddy, the daughter-in-law of ex-MLA Kanaka Reddy, are among the contenders. MLC Shambhipur Raju’s name is also being mentioned, although he has denied being in the ticket race.
