KTR Accuses Congress of Betraying Backward Classes
Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has accused the Congress government of deceiving the Backward Classes (BCs) by reducing their population percentage by 5.5%.
Speaking at a press conference after meeting BC leaders, KTR criticized the Congress party for failing to fulfill its pre-election promise of 42% reservations for BCs. He claimed that the recent BC caste survey was full of errors and compared it to waste paper. According to him, the survey has harmed BCs by denying them their rightful benefits.
KTR demanded a scientific resurvey, stating that people from weaker sections were worried about losing benefits under welfare schemes, six guarantees, and housing programs. He accused the government of making baseless allegations against the BRS while ignoring its own failures. He reminded Congress of its promises, such as 42% reservations for BCs, Rs 1 lakh crore allocation for BCs in Karnataka, and Rs 50 crore for new BC corporations—none of which were fulfilled. KTR called on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to apologize to the BC community.
Furthermore, KTR alleged that the government had deliberately reduced BC numbers by 5.5%, resulting in 22 lakh beneficiaries being excluded from welfare schemes. He labeled the Congress-led caste survey as unscientific and irrelevant, pointing out that even Congress’s own MLC had dismissed it as useless. BRS leaders are now demanding a fresh and accurate survey.
KTR also criticized the government for failing to introduce a bill in the Assembly regarding BC reservations. He highlighted that only the BRS had provided 50% reservations for BCs in local bodies. He announced that the party would launch awareness programs at district, constituency, and mandal levels to educate BC communities about their rights.
Finally, KTR questioned why the Constitution had not been amended to secure BC reservations. He remarked that the BC bill could be passed easily if Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi simply sat together for a discussion.
