BRS Party Members Celebrate as Supreme Court Grants Bail to MLC Kavitha.

Members of the BRS party in Jogulamba district celebrated after the Supreme Court granted bail to MLC Kavitha. Many senior leaders, including Nagardoddi Venkataramulu, ZPTC Basu Shyamala Hanumanthu Naidu, K. Premalatha Pallaiah, Rangu Maddileti, Angadi Basava Raju, Tower Maqbool, B. Gopal, youth leader Kiran Maj, and other party workers, expressed their happiness over the court’s decision.

MLC Kavitha was arrested in connection with the Delhi liquor scam and had been held in Tihar Jail. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested her on March 15, 2024, in Hyderabad, and she was later transferred to Delhi. Both the ED and the CBI have been investigating the case. After prolonged arguments in court, the Supreme Court granted bail to Kavitha.

During the Supreme Court hearing, which lasted for an hour and a half, Kavitha’s lawyers argued that Section 45 should not apply to her. They pointed out that the ED had not presented any solid evidence against her and questioned why the ED couldn’t recover any money, despite claiming that ₹100 crore had changed hands. Senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi, representing Kavitha, emphasized that there was no concrete evidence against her, besides some statements.

The ED’s lawyers, however, argued against granting bail, stating that it could lead to tampering with evidence. They felt that since the case was still under investigation, it would not be right to grant bail at this stage.

The Supreme Court made critical remarks on the ED’s arguments, particularly noting that deleting cell phone data is something that happens naturally.

Kavitha had spent 153 days in Delhi’s Tihar Jail following her arrest on March 15, 2024.
