The Centre has sanctioned a Mega Textile Park for Telangana, and the BRS leaders expressed their happiness over this decision. They credited Textiles Minister KT Rama Rao for the sanctioning of the park. In a press release issued on Saturday, party MLC L Ramana stated that the closure of mills like Azam Jahi Mill in undivided Andhra Pradesh caused the migration of weavers from districts like Karimnagar, Warangal and Nalgonda to other cities like Bhiwandi, Sholapur, Ahmadabad and Surat. However, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao implemented welfare schemes for weavers and provided incentives to those in the profession of handloom and weavers. Industries Minister KT Rama Rao himself oversees the handloom textile department, and the Telangana Textile Apparel (T-TAP) Policy has been brought specifically for the textile industry. The Telangana government decided to set up Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in place of the closed Azam Zahi mill under their responsibility, collected 1200 acres of land in Warangal district and took steps to set up an internationally known Kitex industry in the State. Due to the welfare schemes implemented in Telangana and employment opportunities in the textile industry, weavers who migrated in the last decades are coming back to the state. The BRS leader demanded immediate cancellation of the 5 per cent GST levied by the central government on handloom garments.
