BRS leader Basu Hanumanthu Naidu has criticized the Telangana government’s caste census, calling it flawed, unscientific, and misleading. He alleged that the survey contained many errors and accused the government of manipulating caste data to misrepresent the population of Backward Classes (BCs).
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Naidu questioned the accuracy of the census. He pointed out a major inconsistency, asking how Telangana’s population increased by only two lakh people over ten years. He called this claim unrealistic and bizarre.
Naidu also highlighted a significant drop in the BC population as per the new survey. He stated that, according to the 2014 SKS survey conducted under former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, BCs (excluding Muslim BCs) made up 52% of the population. However, the current survey shows only 46%, reducing the BC population by 6%. He condemned this as a deliberate attempt to underrepresent BCs and mislead the public.
Demanding immediate corrections, Naidu urged the government to ensure that BCs receive their rightful share in governance. He insisted that 42% reservations should be granted to BCs in local body elections, as previously promised. He also stressed that the cabinet expansion should include at least four BC ministers to ensure fair representation.
Criticizing the Congress government, Naidu accused it of failing to empower BCs. He pointed out that major BC communities like Munnuru Kapus, Yadavs, Mudiraj, and Kurumas were not given any ministerial positions in the cabinet. He claimed that the Congress government is not sincere in sharing power with BCs.
Naidu also accused the government of ignoring the Kamareddy Declaration, which was meant to uplift BCs. He argued that the ruling party continues to oppress and marginalize BCs through its policies.
He assured that the BRS party will continue to fight for BC rights and mobilize stronger support to ensure fair representation and justice for BCs in all sectors.
