BRS Intensifies Opposition to GO 29

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao said on Monday that the party would continue to fight against Government Order (GO) 29, calling it unconstitutional. He emphasized that the order must be revoked.

Speaking at a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, KTR shared that the party had hired senior advocate Kapil Sibal to challenge GO 29 in the Supreme Court. He explained that although they expected a hearing on Friday, it had been postponed to Monday.

KTR stated that the Supreme Court did not object to the points raised by their legal team. The Court directed that no results related to the order should be declared until a final verdict is given. Additionally, the Court called for a speedy hearing on the matter.

KTR further explained that the previous BRS government had issued GO 55, which followed reservations for SC, ST, BC, and EWS categories. This ensured that merit-based opportunities were given to all under the open category. However, he argued that GO 29 was unfair because it limited opportunities for reserved categories. The new order removes reserved category candidates from their own categories if they secure a place in open-category seats. KTR said the party has been raising concerns about this issue since February.

He also expressed the BRS’s commitment to supporting students until the court case is resolved. He questioned why the government had not addressed the students’ concerns and asked if it was wrong to point out that GO 29 is unconstitutional. KTR reminded everyone that Chief Minister KCR had fought for 95 percent reservation for locals and warned that there were now conspiracies to bring in non-locals.
