BRS fails to gain any seats in disappointing LS election performance, verdict decoded

In the recent elections in Telangana, the BRS party faced its worst performance in 24 years. They lost deposits in eight out of the 17 seats they contested, including all four seats in Hyderabad. This poor showing has led to questions about whether the party has lost support from voters.

The BRS party also failed to win any seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, marking the first time in the party’s history that they will not have representation in the Lok Sabha since their formation in 2001. Despite having a strong base in northern Telangana districts, the party was unable to secure enough votes and lost deposits in various constituencies.

In Adilabad, Nizamabad, Zaheerabad, Mahabubnagar, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad, Chevella, and Hyderabad, BRS candidates were unable to secure enough votes and lost their deposits. For example, in Adilabad, the BRS candidate came in third place with a significant gap between them and the winner from the BJP. A similar situation occurred in other constituencies where BRS candidates were unable to secure enough votes to retain their deposits.

Despite their success in recent city Assembly elections, the BRS party lost deposits in all four Lok Sabha segments in Hyderabad, indicating a potential loss of support from city voters. Candidates like Ragidi Lakshma Reddy and T Padma Rao were unable to secure enough votes to keep their deposits in Malkajgiri and Secunderabad, respectively. Even in constituencies previously held by the party, candidates like Kasani Gnaneshwar Mudiraj and Gaddam Srinivas Yadav were unable to retain their deposits.
