BJP's 'Nari Shakti' engages with SHGs to secure backing for LS elections

The Telangana BJP is running the ‘Nari Shakti’ campaign as part of its ‘Gao Chalo’ program to reach out to women Self Help Groups (SHGs) and get their support for the upcoming Parliament elections. The party’s women’s wing has had less than 50,000 active members for several years, creating a gap in outreach. The number of women voters has increased and in many polling stations, there are more women voters than men. The party aims to bridge this gap by meeting with SHGs and raising awareness about initiatives launched by the Modi government for women’s empowerment and welfare.

During a meeting with booth committees, State BJP chief G Kishan Reddy emphasized the importance of gaining support from women and specifically mentioned Muslim women. He warned that if Congress comes to power, it would be detrimental to women’s welfare. Reddy highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the Modi government such as Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao to prevent female foeticide, registering houses under the PM Awas Yojana in women’s names, and the Women’s Reservation Bill providing 33% reservations for women in the next State Assembly elections.

Reddy also mentioned that Modi has supported 10 crore Muslim women by scrapping the Triple Talaq bill and making an Adivasi woman the President. He encouraged SHG members to take advantage of schemes like Ayushman Bharat Health insurance, Jandhan Yojana, and a guarantee-free loan of Rs 20 lakh for SHGs with 10 women members to start their own businesses and achieve financial independence.

Addressing complaints raised by women, Reddy criticized the KCR government for failing to distribute ration cards in the past 10 years. He demanded immediate action from the government and advised eligible women to seek help from local party members and approach the nearest MRO to register for schemes like PM Kisan Samman.
