In Pedda Dhanwada village, located in the Rajoli mandal of Jogulamba Gadwal district, the BJP organized a public awareness event. The focus of the event was to highlight the harmful effects of a proposed ethanol factory in the area.
BJP district president, S. Ramachandra Reddy, expressed serious concerns about the factory. He warned that if the plans to build the ethanol plant were not stopped, there would be a strong public backlash. Reddy mentioned that future generations could suffer due to pollution caused by the factory. He also accused officials of accepting bribes and misleading the public to allow the factory to be built on fertile agricultural land, which has rich black soil. He criticized them for ignoring the fact that the plant would be located near densely populated areas like Pedda Dhanwada and Chinna Dhanwada.
Reddy demanded that the factory be moved to a more remote location. He pointed out that ethanol plants should be set up in areas far from human habitation or animal habitats, with at least a 20-kilometer distance from any such areas.
He also raised concerns about the potential discharge of toxic waste into the Tungabhadra River if the factory begins operations. This could affect the drinking water supply for over a dozen villages, leading to serious health risks such as cancer, lung diseases, skin conditions, and genetic disorders.
In addition, Reddy mentioned that the wastewater from the factory could pollute the KC Canal at Sunkesula. This canal is a vital drinking water source for many communities and helps refill local reservoirs. The contamination could impact not only Telangana but also the neighboring districts of Kurnool and Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh, as the Tungabhadra River joins the Krishna River at Sangameshwar. Reddy warned that the pollution could affect a large part of the former Mahabubnagar district.
The event was attended by several important members of the BJP, including OBC district president Devadas, Rajoli mandal BJP president Sanjeeva Reddy, and district legal cell convener Gavvala Srinivasulu.
