BJP Mahila Morcha Requests Governor's Intervention to Enhance Women's Safety

Hyderabad: The BJP Mahila Morcha delegation, led by its state president Dr. Shilpa Reddy, met with the State Governor, Jishnu Dev Varma. They asked him to take strong actions for women’s safety in Telangana.

The delegation handed over a memorandum to the Governor. In it, they pointed out repeated incidents of violence against women and girls in the State. They claimed that the State government has failed to prevent these incidents and requested the Governor to take strict action against the offenders.

They presented statistics from the National Crime Bureau for 2023, showing a 12 percent increase in crimes in Telangana. They emphasized that girls in schools and women traveling are not safe. They mentioned several specific cases to highlight their concerns.

One incident involved a female student who was sexually abused in a school for the blind in the city. Another case involved a software engineer who was gang-raped in Vasasthalipuram. Additionally, an RTC driver attempted to assault a woman under Osmania University police limits. A Dalit woman faced severe mistreatment in Shadnagar police station, and a differently-abled girl was abused in Saligowraram, Nalgonda district. All these incidents occurred within just 20 days.

The delegation accused the state government and police of not taking these serious crimes against women seriously. They claimed that police only registered the cases after Mahila Morcha intervened.

They urged the Governor to request a report on the crimes against women in the State and to take strict measures to ensure law and order.
