Odisha experienced heavy rain due to a low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal. The system first intensified into a depression and later into a deep depression, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, received a record rainfall of 259.2 mm in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Tuesday. This was the highest rainfall Bhubaneswar has ever received in August, surpassing the previous record set in 1997. The IMD has issued different warnings for various districts in Odisha. Four districts have been issued a red warning, indicating that action should be taken. Thirteen districts have been issued an orange warning, suggesting that people should be prepared. Ten districts have been issued a yellow warning, advising people to stay updated on the situation.
