Khammam: Heavy Rains Cause Chaos in District, Deputy Chief Minister Assesses Damage
The Khammam district has been severely impacted by continuous heavy rains, leading to widespread chaos. Streams and rivers are overflowing, causing significant damage to roads and agricultural fields. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka toured the affected areas from Saturday night to Sunday night, meeting with local residents to understand their struggles.
In his visit, Bhatti reassured flood victims and gave immediate orders to the authorities to address the situation. He personally inspected the damaged roads and flooded crop fields. His focus was on ensuring the delivery of essential supplies such as food, medicine, and clean water. Bhatti stated that the government is fully prepared to provide all necessary assistance to the flood victims and emphasized that the Congress-led government is working tirelessly to support the people.
During his tour, Bhatti visited the Bokkala Gadda Rehabilitation Center and other relief sites, interacting with the displaced residents. He instructed District Collector Muzammil Khan to evacuate people from low-lying areas near the Munneru canal, as rising floodwaters posed a serious threat. The Collector was also directed to take measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the people during the ongoing floods.
Despite the rain, the Deputy Chief Minister visited various mandals in the district. He ordered the reconstruction of damaged roads, bridges, and ponds. Bhatti also provided financial relief by handing out cheques of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of two people who tragically lost their lives after being washed away by the floods.
On Sunday morning, Bhatti visited the government health center in Mudigonda mandal and inspected flood-affected areas in Chirumarri village. He also assessed the damage at the submerged Zilla Parishad school in Kamalapuram, Mudigonda Mandal, and instructed officials to repair breaches in the canal. In the villages of Ayyavaripalli and Vallabhi, where pond dams had collapsed and fields were submerged, Bhatti called for detailed estimates for repair work and proposals for a retaining wall.
The Chief Minister personally handed over cheques for Rs 5 lakh to the families of flood victims. One of the victims, Nanneboina Padmavati from Dendukuru village, and another, Malishetty Sambasivarao from Bhavanipuram village, tragically lost their lives after being swept away by the floods.
