Bhatti advocates for GST exemption on construction of government schools

Hyderabad: The Telangana government made several demands at the 53rd GST Council meeting in New Delhi. State Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka attended the meeting chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Bhatti urged the Council to waive GST on the construction of public schools, arguing that it would help allocate more resources to build additional schools. He also pushed for Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA) to be exempt from GST, saying it would reduce the financial burden on State governments. The Council discussed and supported a proposal to waive tax, penalty, and interest on taxpayers who were penalized for non-compliance.

Bhatti also supported the request for an early submission of a report by the Rate Rationalization Committee, which aims to simplify the GST rate structure and make compliance easier.
