Bhatti Accuses Opposition of Conspiring to Block Caste Census

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has accused opposition parties of trying to block discussions about the Congress government’s plan to conduct a caste census.

Speaking at a meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, Bhatti Vikramarka emphasized how important the caste census is for improving social and economic equality for marginalized groups. He said that the survey, promised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, would serve as a tool to help economically disadvantaged communities through a Social Economic Survey.

The meeting also explored how this census could support the welfare of backward communities. Bhatti Vikramarka announced that there will be more meetings at the district level with DCC presidents, as well as a larger, non-partisan state-level meeting. He hinted that Rahul Gandhi might visit Hyderabad on November 5 to discuss the issue further.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar revealed that preparations are underway for a detailed caste survey, which will be the first of its kind in the country. He said the survey would start on November 6, after it gets legislative approval.

He called for everyone’s cooperation to ensure the survey goes smoothly. The Congress party is asking leaders to help officials with the process, following instructions from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Meanwhile, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy praised the government’s decision to conduct the caste census. He criticized opposition parties for opposing every initiative of the government. He also said the survey would benefit more than 50 percent of backward caste communities and urged all political groups to support the effort to make sure the census has a positive impact.
