Begumpet railway station in Hyderabad is getting a makeover under the Amrit Bharat scheme. South Central Railway officials have a plan to make the station look better.

In the second phase of the scheme, 554 railway stations, including Begumpet, are set to be redeveloped. On February 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for this project. Begumpet station is a key stop for trains coming from Mumbai and Pune, with about 122 trains passing through daily and around 16,648 passengers on average.

The current setup at Begumpet station has two platforms but no escalators or lifts. As part of the redevelopment plan, two lifts and escalators will be installed. There will also be a new waiting area and refurbishment of part of the old building. A wider foot-over bridge and a new ticket booking window are also planned. The project has a budget of about Rs 26.55 crore.

The Amrit Bharat Station scheme aims to improve railway stations by adding better lighting, more space, improved parking, facilities for people with disabilities, and eco-friendly features like green energy. The redevelopment is expected to be completed by June.
