The National Backward Classes Welfare Association held a protest in Hyderabad on Sunday. They demanded that the Telangana Government focus on improving welfare hostels and residential schools instead of selling public land. The protest was led by association president and Rajya Sabha MP R. Krishnaiah, who criticized the Congress Government for neglecting the needs of students from backward communities.
Mr. Krishnaiah pointed out that the Congress party had previously opposed selling government lands while in opposition. However, now that they are in power, they are going ahead with such sales. He argued that public lands should be used for the benefit of society, especially for education and student hostels, rather than being sold for money.
One of the major issues raised during the protest was the poor condition of BC welfare hostels. Many of these hostels and schools are running in rented buildings, but landlords are now asking them to vacate due to unpaid rent for the past three years. The protesters urged the government to clear the pending rent payments and build permanent hostels on government land to ensure a stable future for students.
Mr. Krishnaiah warned that if students stayed silent, the government would continue selling valuable lands, starting with prime locations like Gachibowli and expanding further. He also promised to take the issue to the national level if the government failed to act.
The protest reflected growing dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of education and public welfare. The BC Welfare Association vowed to continue their fight until the government takes concrete steps to address their concerns.
