Union Minister Praises MP Aravind for Turmeric Board Efforts
Karimnagar: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, praised Nizamabad MP Aravind Dharmapuri for his dedicated efforts in establishing the National Turmeric Board (NTB) in Nizamabad. Referring to him as the ‘Karta, Karma, and Kriya’ behind the initiative, the minister acknowledged the MP’s commitment to fulfilling his promises to farmers.
Speaking virtually during the inauguration of the NTB on Tuesday, Bandi Sanjay highlighted the significance of the board for turmeric farmers. He said the BJP government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, kept its promise to establish the board. He also expressed gratitude to Union Minister Piyush Goyal for his support and commended MP Dharmapuri Aravind for working tirelessly to make this a reality.
The inauguration of the Turmeric Board office in Nizamabad was attended virtually by Union Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal, MP Dharmapuri Aravind, and Bandi Sanjay himself. While extending Makara Sankranti greetings, Sanjay referred to the occasion as a “festival for farmers.” He thanked Prime Minister Modi, Minister Goyal, and MP Aravind, along with Palle Gangareddy, who has been appointed as the board’s chairman.
Sanjay also recalled the struggles of turmeric farmers in the region. He mentioned the unique move by 178 farmers, who filed nominations during the Lok Sabha elections to draw attention to the need for the board. He applauded MP Aravind for delivering on his written promise to establish the NTB, even going as far as to pledge his resignation if he failed. Special congratulations were extended to Aravind for his dedication.
The Union Minister outlined the benefits the NTB is expected to bring to turmeric farmers. He explained that the board will help farmers earn better profits with minimal investments. It will determine product prices and ensure fair pricing even in cases of surplus production. The board will also directly purchase turmeric from farmers, store it in warehouses, and oversee branding, promotion, packaging, and exports at both national and international levels.
In addition to these measures, the central government will allocate special funds annually for the Turmeric Board. A price stabilization fund will be introduced, and crop insurance will be provided to protect farmers from losses caused by natural calamities. The board will also establish a quality department to conduct regular checks and improve the standard of turmeric products.
Bandi Sanjay concluded by expressing hope that the NTB would bring prosperity to turmeric farmers and transform their lives for the better. He emphasized that the formation of this board marks the beginning of a new era for turmeric cultivation in the region.
