Bhubaneswar: Baitarani and Bansadhara rivers in Odisha have risen above their danger levels due to heavy rainfall caused by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.

At Rajghat, the Baitarani river is flowing at 39.14 meters, exceeding the danger level of 36.36 meters. Similarly, the Bansadhara river near Kashinagar in Gajapati district is flowing at 54.90 meters, surpassing the danger mark of 54.60 meters. The district administration has issued a warning to residents to be alert as there is a risk of low-lying areas getting flooded.

Over the past 24 hours, Odisha has experienced heavy rainfall with an average of 83.8 mm. The highest recorded rainfall of 390.6 mm was in Boudh block of Boudh district. Four blocks received more than 300 mm of rainfall, 17 blocks received over 200 mm, and 68 blocks received rainfall between 100 mm and 200 mm, according to meteorological sources.
