Ayush doctors intensify efforts to combat social media promotions of unproven drugs

In Hyderabad, several recognized Ayurvedic doctors have raised concerns about the promotion of medicines without proper testing and approvals by the Patanjali Ayurvedic Company. This comes after the Supreme Court directed the company to appear before it. AYUSH doctors are advising people to consult a doctor before taking any medicine, as there has been a surge in social media reels and videos promoting the use of Ayurvedic medicines for various ailments.

Experts are warning that many of these reels and videos lack proper scrutiny by AYUSH authorities or the judiciary, making it easy for people to be misled by so-called experts. They emphasize the importance of limiting the consumption of any medicine and only taking them after a thorough examination by a doctor. For example, using pepper in tea for colds and coughs can be beneficial for a few days, but prolonged use can lead to serious issues like blood in urine.

While Ayurveda is known for having minimal side effects, it is crucial to understand the proper usage of medicines. Some registered Ayurvedic companies adhere to strict standards to ensure patient safety. Ayurveda offers treatments for certain diseases where Allopathy may not have answers, but caution must be exercised. Patients with conditions like kidney stones, skin allergies, piles, and spondylitis have found relief through Ayurvedic treatments tailored to their specific needs.

Dr. Gopi Krishna, a registered Ayurvedic doctor, expressed concerns about the widespread availability of dubious medical advice on social media platforms. He highlighted the importance of certification and urged the government to implement stricter monitoring measures to protect public health.
