Awareness Rally held to observe National Dengue Day

Gadwal: The District Medical and health department officials, led by DM HO Shashi Kala, organized an awareness Rally on National Dengue Day. The rally started from the old DM HO office to educate people about dengue fever.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease caused by denv 1, 2, 3, and Denv 4 viruses. The primary cause of dengue fever is the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, especially the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus.

Several factors contribute to the spread of dengue fever. Mosquito vectors become infected by biting a person already infected with the virus and then spread it to others through subsequent bites. Environmental factors like warm and humid climates provide ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes in stagnant water. Rapid urbanization and population growth lead to poor sanitation and water management, creating more breeding sites for mosquitoes.

Human behavior, such as outdoor activities during peak mosquito activity times, increases the risk of infection. Travel and migration also play a role in spreading the virus to new regions. Lack of effective mosquito control measures can lead to increased mosquito populations and higher transmission rates.

Preventive measures include eliminating mosquito breeding sites, using repellents, wearing protective clothing, and implementing community-wide mosquito control programs. The awareness program saw participation from various medical staff members like programme officers, health educators, district coordinators, and health assistants.
