Speaking on the occasion, District Transport Officer Krishna Reddy highlighted that the rally was part of a month-long road safety campaign running from January 1 to January 31. He shared alarming statistics, revealing that five lakh road accidents occurred across India last year, resulting in 1.7 lakh deaths nationwide and 6,000 deaths in Telangana alone. Pamphlets about road safety rules were distributed to drivers during the event.

To prevent such tragic incidents, the officer underlined the importance of creating awareness among drivers, passengers, and the public about road safety. He stressed the need to follow safety rules and outlined key precautions for drivers.

Safety Tips for Drivers:
– Always wear helmets while riding two-wheelers.
– Use seat belts mandatorily when traveling in cars.
– Avoid neglecting helmets and seat belts, as they save many lives.
– Never drive under the influence of alcohol.
– Avoid distractions like phone usage, chatting with passengers, or operating music systems while driving.
– Drive at controlled speeds and avoid overtaking at sharp curves, blind spots, or crowded areas.
– Reduce speed in school zones and near construction sites.
– Use indicators in advance while turning, especially in poor visibility conditions like fog, dust, or darkness.

Drivers were also advised to take short breaks during long journeys, ensure their vehicles are in good condition, and carry valid documents such as driving licenses, vehicle insurance, and pollution certificates. Special attention was drawn to being cautious around children, pregnant women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

RTC DM CH Muralikrishna added that awareness programs are being conducted in schools and colleges across the district to educate students about road safety and traffic rules.

During the event, outstanding drivers Ramulu, Satish Babu, and BV Ramulu were honored for their contributions. They were felicitated by the District Transport Officer, RTC DM, and traffic sub-inspectors.

The rally also saw participation from CI Jojamma, Traffic Inspector KS Shetty, Srinivas Goud, and other officials, making it a collaborative effort to promote road safety in the district.
