The Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) celebrated its Annual Day in Hyderabad, India. The event marked the end of NFC’s Golden Jubilee Year. Shri Dinesh Kumar Shukla, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), was the Chief Guest, and Dr. Sanjay Kumar Jha, CMD of Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Komal Kapoor, Chief Executive of NFC, highlighted the organization’s major achievements, including self-reliance in fuel production and the development of state-of-the-art equipment. NFC has also indigenized many imported components for strategic applications of the Departments of Atomic Energy.

Dr. Kapoor discussed the progress of a Greenfield Project called “NFC-Kota,” which is being set up by NFC in Rawatbhata, Rajasthan, to meet the fuel requirements of forthcoming 700 MWe PHWRs. Dr. Jha praised NFC for its achievements in producing high-quality products and materials, which have made it a source of pride for India. Shri Shukla congratulated NFC for its excellent performance and emphasized its vital role in the Nuclear Power Program of the country.

NFC is an industrial unit of the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, and is the only organization in the country that caters to the fuel requirements of nuclear power reactors. It has a comprehensive manufacturing cycle from ore to core and specializes in the manufacturing of nuclear fuel bundles for PHWRs, BWRs, and Fast breeder reactors. NFC has developed state-of-the-art facilities and process technologies with several innovations in the field of nuclear fuel production and fabrication.

The organization has also set up a Zirconium complex at Pazhayakayal, Tamilnadu, to boost the production of Zirconium sponge. To cater to the increasing demand, NFC is setting up a fuel production facility at Kota, Rajasthan. The event was attended by representatives of various Unions/Associations of NFC, former Chief Executives, senior retired Officers, and a large number of employees of NFC.
