Activists Complain About Poor Road Work in Hyderabad
Residents of Murgi Chowk in Hyderabad are unhappy with the poor quality of road work in their area. They have accused civil contractors of not completing the work properly and civic officials of misusing funds. Concerned about this issue, they have filed a complaint with the Vigilance & Enforcement Department and the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Mohammed Ahmed, a state minority spokesperson for the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), along with local residents, approached the Director General (Vigilance) regarding the matter. They requested that the payment for the civil contractor responsible for laying a CC road in Murgi Chowk (Ward 20) be stopped. Ahmed stated in his complaint that the contractor, First Adventure, did not follow the work order.
According to the work order, the contractor was supposed to lay a 310-metre-long cement concrete (CC) road, but only 260 metres were completed. Additionally, the road width should have been 8 feet as per the rules, but the contractor only made it 5.5 feet. Ahmed also alleged that the Quality Control Department was involved in bribery and that Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials had accepted bribes and ignored the issue.
The TDP leader and residents urged the Vigilance Department to investigate the officials from Circle 9 of GHMC. They also requested the department to stop the payment of Rs 41.5 lakh meant for the contractor until the issue is resolved.
