Akbaruddin urges discontinuation of ongoing medical counselling

There is a call for “uniformity” in the quota of medical seats (category A) in private colleges, both in Minority and non-Minority colleges. AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin has urged the government to stop ongoing counseling so that deserving students can benefit. CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka also supports this idea, suggesting that certain norms can be amended to fit the current situation in the separate state of Telangana.

During Question Hour, Akbaruddin expressed dissatisfaction with Health Minister T Harish Rao’s response to his questions. He demanded that the Competent Authority Quota (CQ) seats in Minority Medical Colleges be reduced from 60% to 50%, aligning with Private un-aided (Non-Minority) colleges. He argued that the State government should correct this or halt counseling. He emphasized that over 350 students would miss out on opportunities and have to pay around 13 to 14 lakhs per annum. He stressed that this issue affects meritorious students from various backgrounds and should be rectified.

CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka supported Akbaruddin’s argument, suggesting that the State government’s actions would benefit students from different categories. He noted that the previous Congress government may have had different norms when it was a unified State, but now, after the formation of Telangana, these norms can be adjusted to suit the current situation.

In response to Akbar’s request, the Health Minister promised to hold a meeting with relevant officials and make a decision promptly. He assured that a meeting would take place on the same day to address this matter.
