Hyderabad: State IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu has said that new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) are being used in agriculture to help farmers earn more.
On Friday, a team from the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, along with other research institutes, met with the Minister at the Assembly. The team was led by Asia Head Rebecca Ridder.
During the meeting, the Minister explained how the government is introducing new technologies in different industries. He pointed out that around 55 to 60 percent of the state’s population depends on farming and agro-based industries. He said technology can solve many problems faced by farmers, and more innovations are needed to help them.
Minister Sridhar Babu mentioned that just like in other countries, “Agri Robots” that can do farm work with little human help will soon be introduced in India. He said research and development on this technology has already started.
The Minister assured that the government will support companies and individuals who bring new ideas to reduce farming costs and improve farmers’ earnings. He also spoke about working with the German government to bring new technology into agriculture.
The event was attended by several experts, including Dr Sebastian Bose, Martin, Sven, Dr Raghu Chaliganti, Professor Janayya (Vice Chancellor of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University), Dr Balaram (Research Director), Dr Ramulu (Director of International Programmes), and Dr Balaji Naik (Director of Digital Agriculture).
