Additional DC Narshing Rao advocates for universal adult education

District Additional Collector Narsingh Rao has directed officials to promote adult literacy as part of the New India Literacy program. He emphasized the need for concrete actions to implement the program effectively at the field level during a review meeting at the IDOC conference hall. The district officials from relevant departments were urged to actively create awareness about literacy among all adults.

The education department officials were instructed to plan activities for the New India Literacy program. The program aims to provide foundational literacy, basic education, critical skills, and continuing education to all youth above 15 years old. The goal is to make 5 crore people literate from 2022 to 2027. Volunteers will be selected from beneficiaries like kindergartens, college students, and young men and women who have studied in the village. Education will be provided at convenient times.

Additional Collector Narsingh Rao announced that teaching and learning materials needed for study would be provided free of cost. Additionally, 20 centers per district will be established to reach rural populations.

Narsingh Rao directed the APDs to ensure the complete establishment of Me-Seva Centres under women’s organizations in the district. This directive followed a video conference with DRDOs on Me-Seva Centres from Hyderabad. Divya, CEO of SERP, decided to grant Mee Seva Centres to members of self-help societies in villages through the Indira Mahila Shakti Sri Scheme to support women in business. 20 centers have been sanctioned for the district based on educational qualification.

As a follow-up, Additional Collector Narsingh Rao asked APDs to survey government locations in villages for setting up Mee Seva Centres and provide a report on their findings. The video conference was attended by various officials from the education department, including EDM Shiva, District Education Officer Indira, CPO Laxman, DPO Venkat Reddy, and others.
