Adani Group to take over electricity bill collection from government

The State government has chosen Adani Group to collect electricity bills in Hyderabad’s Old City. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced this decision while speaking to the media during a visit to Delhi. He mentioned that only 60% of the electricity bills in the Old City are being paid, leading to the decision to hand over bill collection to Adani Group as a trial run.

In addition to collecting electricity bills, Adani Group will also be responsible for installing underground electric lines in the Old City. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy clarified that his government is not privatizing government institutions like Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration. Instead, they have signed investment agreements with Adani Group, particularly in the power sector.

Revanth Reddy pointed out that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has never opposed investment agreements with Adani Group. He emphasized that decisions made by his government are for the benefit of the state. The Chief Minister criticized media reports suggesting that the Congress government is trying to privatize the electricity sector in the state. Under the pilot project, Adani Group will handle not only bill collection but also electricity management, billing, and maintenance in the Old City. If successful, these responsibilities may expand to other areas of Hyderabad and eventually across the state.
