A year later, BRS shows no progress

Hyderabad:
The BRS party, which had governed the State for two consecutive terms from 2014 to 2023, faced significant setbacks in 2024. The year was marked by several unfavorable incidents, including a major defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, where the party failed to secure even a single seat. Additionally, the party suffered losses as several of its MLAs shifted allegiance to the Congress party.

The Pink party, which began its journey as an agitation-based political movement, rose to prominence by winning two State elections and establishing itself as a dominant force. With ambitions of expanding its influence nationwide, the party rebranded itself and extended its presence to neighboring states like Maharashtra. However, following its electoral defeat at the end of 2023, the party largely abandoned its activities in these regions during 2024.

Adding to its troubles, MLC Kavitha, the daughter of party chief KCR, was embroiled in legal issues. She was summoned by the CBI and ED in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. After multiple rounds of questioning, Kavitha was arrested and sent to Tihar Jail. She remained in jail for five months before being granted bail.

The party faced another blow when its senior leader, K Keshava Rao, resigned and joined the Congress. This further weakened the BRS at a critical time. The most significant setback, however, came during the Lok Sabha elections, where the party failed to win a single seat, signaling a challenging phase for its political future.
