Five members of the CPI ML (ND-Pedda Chandranna Faction) naxal group were arrested in the forests near Pusapalli village in Yellandu mandal by the police. Acting on a tip-off about an armed naxal meeting in the area, the police conducted a search operation and managed to apprehend five of the naxals, while others escaped.
The arrested naxals were identified as Kurasam Vanjaiah alias Ashok, Danasari Sammaiah alias Gopi, S Muthaiah alias Pullanna, Shaik Madar Saheb, and Kalakonda Suresh. A pistol, 16 live rounds of .303 rifle, gelatin sticks, detonators, kit bags, and revolutionary literature were seized by the police during the operation.
According to the Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju, the arrested naxals admitted to forming an armed group in September 2023 to oppose the government and highlight its failures. Search operations are ongoing to capture the naxals who managed to escape.
The police officer urged any remaining naxals to surrender and join mainstream society. He also asked the public to report any sightings of naxals carrying weapons in their areas to the police for further action.
