Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic Police have intensified their crackdown on drunk driving within the Commissionerate limits. Over the weekend, they caught more than 315 people for driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to the police, special teams were deployed on weekends to check for drunk drivers. During this large-scale drive, they found that out of the total offenders, 315 were two-wheeler drivers, five were three-wheeler drivers, 71 were four-wheeler drivers, and six were heavy vehicle drivers.
The police also reported that 31 of the offenders had blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) between 200 mg/100 ml, while two individuals were caught with a BAC as high as 550 mg/100 ml.
All those caught for drunk driving will be presented before the court.
During their checks, the police discovered that some offenders were both underage and driving under the influence. While the traffic police booked them for drunk driving, the law and order police will investigate how they obtained alcohol.
The Cyberabad police have warned the public that anyone caught driving under the influence and causing fatal accidents will be arrested and charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This law carries a maximum punishment of up to 10 years in jail along with a fine.
