20,500 students in Telangana switch from private to government schools, thanks to Badi Bata.

The Badi Bata program is happening in government schools in Hyderabad and nearby districts. More students are going to government schools, with 91,352 students registering through Badi Bata. About 20,500 of these students used to go to private schools. Last year, around 169,280 students enrolled in government schools. Teachers have noticed more interest this academic year, especially from students from private schools who want to learn in English. But in other districts, fewer students are enrolling in government schools because there aren’t enough teachers. Most students are enrolling in English medium education.

A Hindi teacher at Government High School Boy, Kachiguda said that parents are happy to enroll their children in government schools because private schools have raised their fees and government schools have improved. A government school teacher said that more parents want their children to learn in English this year. They expect even more students to enroll in government schools when they reopen.

However, there is a shortage of teachers, especially in primary schools, with around 21,000 positions unfilled for many years. This is a problem for many parents who question why they should enroll their children in government schools if there aren’t enough teachers. The Telangana State United Teachers’ Federation is asking for more teachers so that students can get a good education.
