Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police Intensifies Drive Against Drunk Driving
The Cyberabad traffic police have intensified their efforts to curb drunk driving by conducting a large-scale enforcement drive. Over the weekend, they apprehended 172 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol within the Cyberabad Commissionerate limits.
The drive was launched in response to an increase in alcohol-related accidents in the region. Special teams were deployed to various locations to monitor and catch intoxicated drivers. Among those apprehended, 123 were two-wheeler drivers, 11 were three-wheeler drivers, 37 were four-wheeler drivers, and one was a heavy vehicle driver. Notably, 18 offenders were found with dangerously high blood alcohol levels ranging from 200 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml. All violators will be presented before the court for further action.
The police also discovered instances of both underage drinking and drunk driving during the special operation. Authorities revealed that a total of 824 drunk drivers have already been sentenced to jail for durations ranging from one to ten days. Additionally, 227 offenders were ordered to perform two days of social service as punishment.
In further action, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has suspended 99 driving licenses for periods of two to six months, based on magistrates’ orders. The courts have also imposed fines amounting to Rs 2,87,20,600 on the violators.
The Cyberabad police issued a stern warning, stating that anyone caught driving under the influence, especially if it results in fatal accidents, will face severe consequences. Such individuals could be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. This offense carries a maximum penalty of up to ten years in prison and a hefty fine.
The police encouraged citizens to act responsibly and avoid drunk driving to ensure public safety.
