Rural Roads in Telangana Get a Boost with Rs 1,000 Crore Allocation

Hyderabad: Rural roads in Telangana are set to see major improvements as Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has allocated Rs 1,000 crore for their construction. To ensure steady progress, the Chief Minister has directed the State Finance Department to release Rs 150 crore each month until the end of June this year.

During a review meeting with officials from the Roads & Buildings (R&B) and Panchayati Raj departments at the Secretariat on Friday evening, the Chief Minister highlighted the need to upgrade rural roads. He pointed out that the design of single-lane and double-lane roads was originally based on past requirements, such as accommodating bullock carts, bicycles, and motorcycles. However, with the rise in vehicles like cars, tractors, and other four-wheelers even in remote villages, the dimensions of roads now need to be adjusted to support increased traffic.

Revanth Reddy stressed that rural roads should be constructed to allow vehicles to move smoothly without any obstacles. He also noted that while Tandas (tribal hamlets) and Gudems (settlements) have been upgraded to Panchayats, there has been a lack of focus on building proper roads and school infrastructure in these areas. The Chief Minister has directed that every Panchayat in the state must have a BT (bitumen-topped) road to improve connectivity.

This initiative is expected to enhance transportation and accessibility across rural Telangana, benefiting both residents and local economic activities.
