Hyderabad is preparing for an exciting astronomical event called “Zero Shadow Day” on Thursday at 12:22 pm. The BM Birla Planetarium in Hyderabad is organizing an event for people to witness this phenomenon.
Zero Shadow Day occurs twice a year near the equator, between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer. During this event, the sun aligns directly above the Earth’s equator, causing objects and living creatures to have no shadows. The city experienced this event earlier this year on May 9th.
To experience Zero Shadow Day, one must be in an open space with no obstructions like buildings or trees that would cast a shadow. At exactly 12:22 pm on Thursday, stand in an open area with the sun directly overhead. The shadow of any vertical object will disappear during this time, giving you a rare opportunity to witness zero shadow.
During the observation, you’ll see the shadow move, but at exactly 12:22 pm, the object’s shadow will vanish briefly. Keep observing as the shadow reappears.
