Karnataka Housing and Minorities Welfare Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan has successfully gained the support of the Minority community for the Congress Party in the recent Assembly polls in Telangana. He stayed in Telangana for more than two weeks before the elections and held meetings with party leaders, Muslim community leaders, and thinktank members. This helped consolidate Muslim votes in 49 minority-dominated Assembly seats and ensured that those votes were transferred to the Congress Party.

Before coming to Hyderabad, Khan discussed election strategies with AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal and stayed in constant touch with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. This played a significant role in diverting Minority votes to the Congress Party. Additionally, Khan facilitated the inclusion of leaders from MIM and BRS into the Congress Party, surprising these two parties.

The Congress Party’s success in Bohdan, Ramagundam, Peddapalli, Balakond, and Kondagal constituencies, as well as the consolidation of the Minority community in Khammam, Warangal, and Nalgonda regions, contributed to their victory in Telangana. Most of the seats won by the party were in Khammam, Nalgonda, and Warangal districts. In the previous two elections, Muslim votes were divided between BRS and MIM. However, this time, except in Greater Hyderabad, these votes went to the Congress Party in all other districts. This was due to the strategies implemented by Zameer Ahmed Khan and other Muslim leaders from Karnataka.

Zameer Ahmed Khan expressed his gratitude to the people of Telangana for giving the majority to the Congress Party and allowing them to form a new government. He assured that the Congress Party would implement all six guarantee schemes mentioned in their election manifesto, similar to what has been done in neighboring Karnataka. Khan credited the party’s victory to the united efforts of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and other leaders. He believed that the party came to power with the support of people who desired change.
