Today, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) will organize protests in support of wrestlers who have been demonstrating outside Jantar Mantar for over ten days. The wrestlers are calling for the arrest of BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Singh and his removal from office due to allegations of sexual harassment. The SKM, which was behind the one-year-long farmer protest against farm regulations on the outskirts of Delhi, will have leaders from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh visit the protest site and show solidarity with the wrestlers.
On Friday, Anil Vij, the minister for housing and health in Haryana, showed his support for the wrestlers and even offered to act as a mediator between them and the authorities. Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur also stated that the Delhi Police were launching an impartial probe into the head of the wrestling association to satisfy the demands of the protesting wrestlers.
Security has been increased at Jantar Mantar in Delhi in anticipation of today’s protests.
