The National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) was supposed to be launched by the second week of August in Hyderabad, but it seems like this plan has been delayed. The Hyderabad Metro has not taken any steps to implement the card yet, and officials from L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad and Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) are blaming each other for the delay.

In July of this year, during a review meeting, K T Rama Rao, the Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, stated that the process of issuing the card would begin by the second week of August. However, no progress has been made by the officials of Hyderabad Metro in processing the card, and August is almost over.

The main purpose of the NCMC is to allow citizens to use it not only for travel but also for other transactions, similar to existing cards. This would make travel payments easier and more streamlined. Once implemented, the card will be available for use on Metro Rail and RTC buses, and later extended to MMTS, cabs, and auto services.

When The Hans India team asked about the NCMC, officials from L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad and HMRL passed the responsibility onto each other, stating that they should contact L&T for more information.

According to sources, all 57 Metro stations will accept the NCMC if it is implemented. The single card may also work for MMTS, TSRTC, and cabs. It is unclear whether the NCMC will be implemented in phases or all at once. Once the card is introduced, it can be purchased at Metro stations or through the PAYTM app. The main advantage of introducing this card in Hyderabad would be its nationwide applicability.
