The Congress party in Hyderabad is trying to balance caste representation within its ranks. After announcing Revanth Reddy as the CLP leader and Chief Minister Designate, there are discussions about considering leaders from BC and SC communities for the position of TPCC chief.
One of the top choices for the position is Ponnam Prabhakar, an MLA from Husnabad and a former MP. He comes from the Goud community and has a strong background in student politics, having been a leader in NSUI and State president in Unified AP. He also served as a Member of Parliament from Karimnagar during the time of bifurcation. However, despite being offered the position, Ponnam rejected it as he is hopeful of securing a prominent Ministry in the Congress’s cabinet.
Another contender for the TPCC chief position is Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, an MLA from Madhira belonging to the SC community. He is considered one of the top candidates for the Chief Minister’s post and has expressed his desire for at least the Deputy CM’s position. If he doesn’t get his preferred Ministry, he may choose to take up the top party position in the State. C Damodara Rajanarsimha, a former Deputy CM in the Unified AP, is also being speculated as a potential candidate.
While Andole MLA is likely to secure a Ministry, senior leaders with good understanding with Revanth are believed to be the best choices for the top party position. These decisions are being made to maintain a balance of caste representation within the party.
