**Hyderabad:** For two weeks, students and unemployed youth protested, demanding the postponement of the Group-II exams and DSC. They also wanted candidates to be called in a 1:100 ratio for the Group-I Mains exams.

In response, the State government announced a new notification to fill more posts through DSC. On Friday, the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) postponed the Group-II exams from August 7 and 8 to December.

However, the government decided to call qualifying candidates for Group-I in a 1:50 ratio for the Main exams. They explained that this was specified in the notification, and changing it could lead to legal issues.

N Sridhar Reddy, a graduate, mentioned that many aspirants were worried about getting more chances to take the exams and face interviews. He said that for the past ten years, there were no Service Commission examinations. Aspirants had to keep preparing for different exams, including police recruitment and Central Services exams, which require an undergraduate degree.

Those with fewer attempts left due to age limits were especially concerned. Many of them protested to get the exams postponed, hoping to maximize their chances by attempting multiple exams.

The issue isn’t limited to Service Commission exams. Contract teachers and university faculty have also been demanding regularization of their services based on years of work before new posts are filled, according to CV Ramachander Rao.

Rao noted that changes in exam patterns make it hard for contract teaching staff to compete with recent postgraduates in exams like SET and NET. He added that delays in filling posts and not conducting qualifying exams for years have made many fear losing future opportunities or even their current contract jobs.
