Frequent motor failures at pump houses in various parts of Hyderabad, especially in the central and northern areas, have been causing continuous disruptions in the water supply.
Local residents have expressed frustration, claiming that even after raising the issue on social media, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has been slow to resolve the problem.
People are asking the water department to replace the old motors, which have been in use for decades, and to ensure proper maintenance. They point out that these motors have never been replaced, and there is no backup available when they break down.
Residents from areas like Alwal, Bolarum, Nampally, Red Hills, Asif Nagar, and Tolichowki have complained that even when they report damaged motors, their complaints are often closed without proper action. The authorities frequently claim that the issues have been fixed, but the problems continue.
Raj Shekar Reddy, a resident of Bollarum, mentioned that motor failures have become a regular issue in his area. “Last week, we didn’t receive water for five days,” he said. “The motors are too old and need to be replaced. There isn’t even a backup when they break down.”
Ramesh, a resident of Nampally, echoed similar concerns. “We face this problem every month, and it disrupts the water supply. We are forced to rely on bore water or tankers.”
Social activist Sai Teja added that poor coordination between the electricity department and the water board is contributing to the recurring motor failures. “Officials only respond when the situation gets really bad. Regular maintenance at pump houses would prevent these problems,” he said.
