The Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavan Jyoti Yatra, a national event to honor the 80th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, made its way to Narayanapet district on Monday. The event, which took place from August 9 to 20, was enthusiastically welcomed by local Congress members with a large motor rally.
The journey started at the Karnataka border in the Maktal constituency, led by MLA Vakiti Srihari. It then reached the Narayanapet district headquarters, where it was warmly received by Narayanpet MLA Dr. Chittem Parnika Reddy, former DCC president Kumbham Shivakumar Reddy, and other Congress leaders near Singaram Gate.
The procession moved through urban areas with a colorful display of cycle motors. It continued towards Jilalpur near the Karnataka border before heading back to Karnataka.
During the event, Parnika Reddy and Shivakumar Reddy spoke about Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions to science and technology in India. They praised the late Prime Minister’s efforts and emphasized the message of the Jyoti Yatra, which is to fight extremism, promote national unity, and support nation-building.
The event was attended by many dignitaries and Congress leaders, including yatra president Dorai, working president Sujendra Shetty, secretary Iyer, vice president Srinivas Appa, Maktal MLA Vakiti Srihari, DCC president Prashant Reddy, and municipal chairman Gande Anasuya Chandrakant.
Other notable attendees were senior leaders Bandi Venugopal, Manohar Goud, G Sudhakar, Sangambanda Gopal Reddy, as well as Youth Congress and NSUI leaders.
