A disagreement has emerged among Congress leaders in Warangal over the appointment of a new committee for the Enumamula Agricultural Market. This market is one of the largest in Asia, and some senior Congress members are unhappy with the recent selections.

The Telangana government appointed Yerra Priyanka as the chairperson of the Enumamula Agricultural Market Committee on January 28. Priyanka is the wife of Dr. Puli Anil Kumar, who is a national coordinator for the All India SC department. However, after this announcement, speculation began that the government had put the order on hold due to objections from senior party leaders.

The delay in the swearing-in ceremony of the committee has raised further suspicion. Initially, it was believed that the delay was due to the MLC election code. However, party insiders suggest that some leaders approached Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, arguing that experienced party members were overlooked in the selection process.

A senior Congress leader expressed frustration, stating that there might be changes in the committee, including the chairperson’s position. He also pointed out that many party members who had hoped for government appointments were still waiting, even though the party has been in power for over a year. He added that the leadership has not even filled four vacant ministerial positions in the State Cabinet.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that senior Congress leader Namindla Srinivas wanted his wife to be appointed as the chairperson. Srinivas had hoped to contest from Wardhannapet in the last Assembly elections, but the party chose retired IPS officer K. R. Nagaraju instead, who eventually won the seat.

Since the chairperson post for the Enumamula Market Committee is reserved for SC women, there are not many contenders for the position. In the midst of this controversy, Revenue Minister and Warangal district in-charge Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy is expected to make a statement regarding the appointment soon.
