Gadwal: The District Collector, B.M. Santosh, has emphasized the importance of voting in shaping the country’s future. He urged all eligible citizens to register as voters and make use of their voting rights responsibly.

To mark the 15th National Voters’ Day on Saturday, the District Collector flagged off a voter awareness rally. Through slogans like “Our Vote – Our Right” and “Vote is Your Voice,” the rally aimed to spread awareness about the significance of voting and active participation in elections.

Speaking at the event, the District Collector encouraged everyone above 18 years old to register and take part in the electoral process. He described voting as both a right and a “powerful weapon” for citizens to shape the nation’s future. According to him, voting is essential for making one’s voice heard by the government and influencing policymaking.

The rally also focused on educating students about the value of voting since they are the future citizens of the country. The Collector reminded everyone that registering as a voter and casting a vote are basic responsibilities of every citizen.

He further explained that the government now allows individuals aged 17 and above to pre-register as voters. This initiative ensures that more people are included in the electoral process. Citizens can register online or through Booth Level Officers, who are visiting homes to assist with voter registration.

The District Collector also highlighted special government measures to improve voting access in remote areas, islands, and hard-to-reach locations. For example, in villages like Gurram Gadda, boats are being used to reach voters. However, he pointed out that urban areas still have low voter turnout compared to rural regions. He urged people in cities to register and vote, stressing that voting is a fundamental duty of every citizen.

“No matter where you are during elections, make it a priority to cast your vote,” he said. He encouraged everyone present to register, raise awareness, and actively participate in the democratic process to help shape the nation’s future.

At the end of the event, participants took the Voter’s Oath, pledging to use their voting rights responsibly.

The rally and awareness program saw active participation from Additional Collectors Lakshminarayana and Narsing Rao, RDO Srinivas Rao, BC Welfare and SVEEP Nodal Officer Ramesh Babu, SC Welfare Officer Saroj, officials from various departments, staff members, and students.
