To encourage more people to vote, various organizations and unions in Hyderabad are offering free transport facilities on the polling day. These organizations include voluntary groups, private transport unions, and the United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations. Representatives from these organizations will be present near polling stations to assist voters.
On November 30, many voluntary organizations and members of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union will provide guidance and support to voters. The Youngistaan Foundation and Social Democratic Forum have been actively encouraging citizens, especially young voters, to register their names in the electoral rolls. These organizations have also used social media platforms to promote voter turnout on the polling day. The Youngistaan Foundation members will help voters locate their polling stations and find their names on the rolls. Additionally, several private schools in the city will organize campaigns to raise awareness about voting rights.
The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union is providing free transport facilities to those in need, particularly senior citizens, to reach the polling booths. Considering the low voter turnout in the past three Assembly elections, they have decided to deploy around 250 cabs, 120 autos, and 1,200 bikes. They have obtained a list of areas with low turnout from the Election Commission office and will provide free transport where required.
The United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations aims to increase voter participation in Hyderabad. They will establish Voter Assistance Booths at all polling stations, where booth-level officers will be present. A member of the Resident Welfare Association will also be available to assist voters. Additionally, they plan to provide free transport assistance to those who need it and offer rides to the polling booths.
By offering these initiatives, these organizations hope to make voting more accessible and encourage a higher voter turnout in Hyderabad.
